Race Recap 5-23-2011

Per Greg:
OK, here is my race report. First off, 21 drivers are in the league. they split the league based on weight. the Cut off was 190lbs. I weighed in above that, and of course you will be below. After splitting the field and determining the weight loads for each driver they started a qualifying session. Interestingly enough, this is a combined league, some drivers with experience some that are rookies.(so basically an 'open' league) We raced on track 2 the country course. The qualifier was 5 minutes to pull your best lap. In the heavy weight(HW) division I pulled a 15.50 for 2nd. 1st was a 15.49 (not too bad...considering it's been a while)

Race #1 30 laps
Got into a kart sitting in 2nd...it was a dog of a kart. Pushing and chopping it's way around the track. Guy in 3rd passed me on lap 2 and was fighting with the 1st place guy. They got together and both spun...I slid through unharmed and took 1st which I held by blocking the shit out of everyone in my rear. (slow kart=defensive driving) Some of these guys are very good and if you make a mistake they will take advantage. Fortunatly I was able to hold onto 1st place and took a first race win. (felt good and was a good lift of the spirit) best lap I had was a 15.777 Average lap was 16.1.

Race #2 30 laps
Since I won the first race I was sent to the back. (reverse order) I had screaming kart. Pulled fastest lap of the race with a 15.077(pretty sure it was the 2nd or 3rd fastest lap for anyone in the night) However, I spun a guy and took a penalty. Then when I passed a guy clean...they gave me a penalty(it was an error...but damage was done) So yeah...1st to worst in the first two races. Uhgg.....but I had the fastest lap...go figure.

Race #3 40 laps
Yea that is right 40 mother fucking laps....They averaged out the starting grid for this one based on results from race 1 and 2. Well 1st + 10th = 5th place...yeah for maths skill. Got into a kart that felt very nice...tight and turned well. About 3 laps in I pushed the guy in front of me uphill and got us past 3rd place. I was then stuck behind him for another 15 laps or so. Finally I took advantage of a small error he made in the S turns. Then I hunted down 1st place. After 2 or 3 laps I was right on him. Yet, he blocked me very well. (I'll give credit when it's do) We had a great battle he knew I had a faster kart, but he kept his line. So I finished 2nd only 0.171s behind the leader. (close finish) Fast lap was a 15.247s with an ave of 21.31s (red flag was thrown in lap 14th, a guy got all into the wall.)

So what did I learn from this series so far....if you are in a slower kart fight for position but take a defensive line. Fast kart be very aggressive, don't wait for the guy in front of you...if you see a hole take it. Also, get used to the bumping....shit is outta control. Lots of bumping in the rear and sides.
All in all, 3 races 1st, 10th and 2nd. Guess I was doing something right.
